St Mary’s is recognised as a Dementia Friendly Organisation by Dementia Friends – An Alzheimer’s Society Initiative.

This means that we recognise that dementia takes many forms, affects people of all ages, and that those with the problem are helped by people showing understanding and making small but unobtrusive attempts to help.

Our link is Dr Derek Glover. He will be delighted to hear from you.

Derek would like as many people as possible to Join as a Dementia Friend. In doing so you’ll join a community of over three and a half million people around the world who have shown that they care. It only takes a few minutes to register your details and then watch a five minute video. You can do that here.

We have many opportunities to show our dementia friendliness –

–       Being practical, giving help with transport, fetching coffee

–       Showing patience, when people forget words, take time to find change, lose pages and numbers and get frustrated.

–       Offering support when visitor or friend seems ‘lost’ or confused.

WE DO IT ANYWAY, SO REGISTER AND THEN OUR ATTITUDE AND ACTION ARE KNOWN TO OTHERS
