St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival takes place every two years, our next one will be in 2025. The 2023 Christmas Tree Festival was a tremendous success and raised about £6,500 for us. Entry is £3 (children are free). There’s delicious homemade soup every lunchtime with cakes, tea and coffee available all day. With music, Christmas gifts, a children’s nativity trail and a special service of Evensong (Sunday 6pm), the festival has something for everyone. A Saturday concert with the Mellstock Band below was a great success in 2023.
Entering a tree in the 2025 festival
We welcome offers from any business, organisation or individual wishing to display a tree in the Festival. There’s no charge for this and no particular requirements other than that you bring it along and decorate it any time between 3.00 p.m. on the Thursday and lunch time on the Friday immediately preceding the event. If you’re entering a tree as an organisation or business please feel free to use it as a means of advertising your organisation by decorating the tree in an appropriate theme.
Christmas in Mellstock
Saturday 25th November in St Mary’s Church, surrounded by trees.
Follow the Mellstock Band as they go their Christmas rounds in deepest Wessex, encountering strange visitors, pious beasts, wrathful squires and sweaty dancers. There are supernatural visions, harmonious song and curious musical instruments, all depicted in the wonderful words of Thomas Hardy and William Barnes.
Trees in 2023
We are grateful to all these people, organisations and businesses who provided a tree.
