We are sorry …

We have taken the difficult decision to cancel a number of our planned Christmas services. This is largely due to concerns over the rise in Covid infections but also influenced by weather conditions. The following will not now take place:

  • Carols on the Green – Ross (Wednesday and Thursday)
  • Nativity Service – Walford (Christmas Eve)
  • Christmas Eve Eucharist – Brampton Abbotts

You’ll find details of the services that are still going ahead at https://rossparishes.uk/christmas. We ask everyone who comes along to observe good social distancing and to bring a face mask. All services require pre-booking and if you don’t make it, most will be live streamed on Facebook.

December 23

An angel of the Lord appeared and said: “Do not be afraid; for see—I am
bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:  11  to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, [a]  the Lord.  12  This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”  13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, [b]  praising God and saying, 14  “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”

Watch:

Pray

Pray for those who feel afraid at the moment. May they feel comfort and protection.

With the shepherds of Bethlehem
help us, oh Lord, to stand in vigil on the eve of your Coming,
to run with haste to meet you,
to see your face in the faces of others
and to wake from our sleep as a new world is being born.
With the angels of Bethlehem help us,
oh Lord, to tell the whole world of your presence
God is with us!
Let us create peace amongst people
and work for justice amongst nations.
With Jesus, the infant Christ
help us, oh Lord,
to cherish the hope that is born at Advent,
to hear the calling of your people,
to nurture the seeds of your Kingdom
and through our actions to be messengers of your love
in building communities of service and prayer.
Amen.

Carols on the Green is cancelled

In the light of increasing concern over the progress of Coronavirus we have been reviewing some of our remaining Christmas programme today and have, with a heavy heart, decided to cancel the proposed outside carol singing in the churchyard that was to have taken place on Wednesday and Thursday.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is screenshot-2020-12-02-at-11.48.00.png

We apologise to all who had planned to come. The Bap Shack, who were to have been providing refreshments will instead be in the churchyard at the time of the Crib Service on Christmas Eve (4 pm service). There are only 5 places remaining at that service so book soon

Details of all our Christmas services will be found at https://rossparishes.uk/christmas.

And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:7

Listen:

Once in Royal David’s City performed by St. Mary’s Choir

Watch:

Pray

Pray for those who also don’t have a place to lay their head tonight.

Vulnerable God,
As we contemplate the wonder of your birth,
Stir in us the desire to cradle those who have no where to lay their head,
That together we may rock the boat of injustice.
Give us grace to offer our hands to those who reach out
That with faltering steps we may find a way home
And kindle our hearts to embrace the rejected and dispossessed
And so meet you face to face.
We ask this in your name. Amen.

It stands in our midst as a tree of light, that we might promise such beauty to one another and to our world. It stands like that tree of paradise that God made into the tree of life, the cross of Jesus.
