We are soon to invest a considerable amount of money into a new sound system in St Mary’s. We have a trial of speakers (the vital bit) on Tuesday 7th June at 3pm. If you’ve ever complained that you can’t hear properly in church we want your views on the next bit of tech. Please come along for a cup of tea.
Yesterday we said goodbye to Canon Chris Blanchard from The Ross Parishes ministry team in a service at Walford Church. Here are some pictures of the occasion.
An evening of local history, stories from St Mary’s churchyard.
We’ll begin the evening in church with a presentation from Heather, over a glass or two of wine to hear about the development of the churchyard and its surrounding buildings and who is buried in it. After that, weather permitting, we’ll wander out for one of Heather’s guided walks (a short one) to see it all in context.
This event has been organised by the Ecochurch group.
A request from the KTS Crafts Warehouse (Trenchard Street), from a lady who goes into Ukraine and often near the front. They need socks and sanitary towels for the soldiers. The soldiers put sanitary towels in their boots to absorb moisture.
Men, please bring in a pair of socks, a pair from their own sock drawer would be perfect (you don’t have to knit them and they don’t need to be blue and yellow!).
Can we ask all women to bring in a packet of sanitary towels each. If everyone can do this that would be a fantastic help.
Our organ recital on Saturday evening given by Suzy StClair raised just over £1000. The money has been divided between Katie’s tremendous efforts from her premises on Trenchard Street, and the Bridge Charity, based in Poland who are supporting refugee efforts in Ukraine.
Thanks to everyone who came, and especially to Suzy for a tremendous evening.
We are delighted to welcome Suzy StClair to St Mary’s for her recital on Saturday. All tickets sales will go directly to Ukraine charities. Please consider coming along.
Suzy took up the organ at the age of 10 as a church organist, she has an ARCM diploma in organ performance from the Royal College of Music. Suzy has spent most of her life outside the UK and, until recently, was organist at a church in Ukraine.

It’s that time of the year when St Mary’s Electoral Roll needs to be updated ahead of the APCM on Tuesday 16th May. If you are not already on the roll and would like to be added please see the information on the church website https://rossparishes.uk/our-churches/pcc/, pick up a form on the welcome desk at the back of church or email Julian Hallett by Monday 8th May. This is only required for new additions to the electoral roll.
St Mary’s Choir (with the Youth Choir) is singing the Eucharist in Hereford Cathedral this morning. The service starts at 10 am and you can watch it live, or later in the week, here.
Ross-on-Wye Community Development Trust is convening a meeting of those interested in supporting refugees in Ross with the aim of helping a support group to form.
If you are interested in joining us on Saturday 26th March at 9.30 am at St Mary’s Church, or cannot attend but would like to keep in touch with developments, add your details to this form (https://bit.ly/refugeemeeting). We will use this to create a mailing list to keep everyone in touch with each other.
The meeting is for anyone interested in ensuring support for refugees in the town, especially:
Ukrainians already living here
Those who speak Ukrainian or Russian as well as English
Those who have offered accommodation for refugees
Community groups and churches
Those with past experience of supporting refugees in other communities
Those willing to volunteer to offer support
Please pass on this invitation to anyone you know locally in the above categories. We are also inviting representatives from local schools and statutory agencies in health and social services.
If you have queries, please email info@rosscdt.org.uk or leave a message on our Helpline 01989 313002.
We have found that selling tickets for the charity auction is an uphill struggle and have decided the best thing is to postpone it until later in the year.
We are most grateful to those who have contributed lots, we hope to use them all later (you can continue to contribute). Thanks too if you bought a ticket: we’ll refund (please ask) or please save it until the auction actually happens.
Please be aware that this was one of the major fundraised for St Mary’s, and postponing increases our deficit budget for the time being.
We are delighted that Nigel Morris and Norman Bricknell will be our auctioneers for the evening.
If you can contribute a lot for the auction we’d still love to hear from you.
And if you’d like a preview (or even to bid before the event) you can do that too.
